If you can't tell from the title of this post, I haven't been overly impressed with the Birchbox service in the past. I signed up about 6 months ago & was looking forward to receiving lux samples each month. Birchbox promised samples from high-end companies such as Stila, Kiehl's, NARS & Kerastase. At just $10 a month, it seemed like a great deal to me! However, every month that went by I became more and more dissapointed by the service. I never once received samples from any of these lux brands. In all honesty, how many samples of Pangea Organics does one girl really need?! So, I reluctantly decided to end my subscription. That was until a month ago, when I received an email advertising the Gossip Girl inspired May Birchbox. I had heard such good things about other inspired Birchboxes such as the Teen Vogue box, so I figured there was no harm in giving Birchbox a second chance.

And let's just say, Birchbox did not dissapoint! A part of me thinks that maybe they were trying to butter me up because I deleted my subscription before...but maybe that's just me being paranoid. Finally my May Birchbox was filled with the samples I had hoped for for all those months- a full sized Stila product, Kerastase samples, and no Pangea Organics or perfume sample in sight! Hallelujah!

Beautiful metallic gold color. I will most likely save this for the next winter holiday season.
Dr Jart+ Waterfuse BB Cream
I was pleasantly surprised to discover this BB Cream is light enough for my skin tone! I'm excited to see how my skin reacts to this.
Kerastase Cristalliste Lumiere Liquid
I love shine enhancing hair products so this is a great sample for me.
Stila Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Curacao (Full Sized)
I'm looking forward to using this gorgeous metallic cobalt liner for a pop of color on a night out. When they say waterproof, they mean waterproof. The swatch on my hand did not budge or fade in the least the entire day, no matter how many times I washed my hands.

So, I'm going to give Birchbox one more try and see what comes next month. I will then ultimately decide whether or not I want to continue my subscription.

DeleteI've always wanted to try this out but have heard both good and bad stories and haven't ever really signed up for it. A Gossip Girl inspired box sounds so fun!

Yes, this was without a doubt the best box I have received so far! All my other boxes had just been meh... so can't really say if I recommend the service one way or the other :/

Aww, I feel your pain! I can't tell you how many times I saw what other girls got in their boxes & looked at me & thought "really?!" haha
DeleteLast month was my very first box and i was SO disappointed! One of my samples was a hair oil thing, and the little bottle BROKE when I closed it, oozing oil all over my vanity.... another sample, they sent me an email telling me to check if it was expired (it was) and I got 2 samples of double stick tape.... and a little sample of Stila, which I haven't bothered to try, b/c I find there's rarely enough color on those for me to do both my eyes =( But this month I am MUCH happier! I also received the nail polish and BB cream, as well as a twistband hair tie, sample of Sugar Rose lip treatment and a vanilla cologne (which I actually REALLY like, even though it essentially smells just like vanilla extract...)

Lol last month's birchbox sounds like a nightmare! Double-sided tape? I actually laughed out loud when I read that! Glad to hear your box this month was an improvement ;
Deletewow, not a bad box at all!! I think all beauty boxes tend to do better in the beginning and then end up slacking once they have the subscribers :((
ReplyDeleteMy gossip girl bb did NOT have that stuff in it! I haven't been that impressed. A few things are cool, but the rest I'm either finding myself giving away, or imagine it will perish in a far corner of my vanity drawer.
