Review: Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm

Too Faced Beauty Balm in Vanilla Glow

Ever since I heard about BB Creams making their way onto the US market, I was beyond excited. They sounded like a miracle product for streamlining my morning makeup routine. Primer, light foundation, & skincare in one? Sign me up! Sadly though, I have to admit that so far American BB creams have not lived up to the hype for me. Unfortunately, Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm was another BB Cream that I had high hopes for, but just didn't work well with my skin.

"A multi-benefit BB cream that tints, primes, nourishes, prevents, and protects skin in one easy step" - Sephora Website

After trying the Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream with no luck (Review Here), I did a bit of research to see which other BB Creams people seemed to be loving. Too Faced seemed to be widely popular & had glowing reviews, so I went ahead and ordered it.

When I first applied this Beauty Balm to my skin, I was pleased to see that it did feel much more moisturizing than the Smashbox one had. It was much creamier and felt more like a tinted moisturizer.

The Too Faced Tinted Beauty Balm is nicely pigmented. However, I found the Smashbox one to have superior coverage. Also, in my opinion, the Too Faced BB Cream is much more warm toned, while the Smashbox one was a more neutral tone, which suits my skin tone better. Once I had my concealer, powder & blush on though, it was hardly noticeable.

My main complaint with this product was that it had hardly any lasting power on me! When I first applied it in the morning, I felt like it never truly set. I was still left with a semi-dewy finish, which for those with drier skin types is great. Unfortunately, I have combination skin and within 2 hours my makeup had completely disappeared from my t-zone!

Another complaint I had, though in my opinion not a deal-breaker, was that this BB Cream was slightly shimmery. In some lighting I hardly noticed it, but there were a few instances during the day where I would catch my reflection and notice little shimmer particles on my forehead. Don't get me wrong, I love shimmery products for adding brightness/highlighting the face, I just prefer to be able to control where on my face I shimmer.

So all in all, I do think this is a nice product, but only if you have a normal to drier skin type. If you are looking for something with light coverage, a step above tinted moisturizer, this might be the product for you! As for me, I am slowly starting to lose hope that I will ever find my HG BB Cream...might be better to stick with my Vitalumiere Aqua after all!

Have you found any BB Creams that you love?

Thanks for reading!

Lots of Love,

Louise

  4. I have not jumped on the BB cream bandwagon yet...I think that if I do try one, I might try an asian brand. I keep thinking, "How can they be much different from a tinted moisturizer?" lol. I only sometimes wear foundation on weekends or if I'm getting together with family/friends, so I dont know if there really is a place for BB cream in my daily routine!

P.S. I nominated you for a Versatile Blogger Award!

Wow, you're so lucky you don't have to wear foundation! I would say that on a daily basis I only wear very little sheered out, but I have a bit of uneven skin tone (I'm really fair) from sun damage that I like to cover. If you ever find a BB cream you like, please let me know!

  9. I love Korean brands. Right now I'm using the one from FacedIt (The Face Shop) and even though it looks dark in the tube, when you put it on, it actually blends in pretty well. It's one of the pump bottles/tubes and the size is pretty big.
